Guadalajara Location: State of Jalisco (Centrally located in Mexico)
Guadalajara is not only the second largest city in Mexico, it’s one of the most serenely beautiful and stately cities in the entire country. Blessed with an ideal climate and a location convenient to much of what Mexico has to offer, it has been a popular destination for travelers from all over the world. It has been said that Guadalajara is where north meets south, colonial meets modern, and traditional meets cutting edge. In addition to this, Guadalajara and the state of Jalisco have spawned many of Mexico’s most remarkable icons: bittersweet mariachi music, the Mexican hat dance (jarabe tapatio), and tequila.
Guadalajara is a city of parks and fountains, of monuments and rose-lined boulevards. Mingling with colonial mansions and lovely old churches are new skyscrapers, attractive residential areas, fine hotels, excellent restaurants, bars, and nightclubs.
Visitors find that Guadalajara is a great city to spend time in. If there ever was a city to explore on foot, Guadalajara would be it. Spend a few days walking around to see if you can find the city’s 100 or so city parks. On the way, you will stop by wonderful outdoor markets, visit world-class museums, have a drink at a lovely outdoor cafe, or visit some of the impressive colonial architecture in the city center. If you get tired of walking, make use of the extensive transportation system, which includes, buses, taxis, and an efficient subway system.
From Guadalajara it is easy to get to some fascinating places surrounding the city. A few of the more interesting places include the picturesque Tlaquepaque, Tonala, Zapopan, Amatitan, the ever famous town of Tequila, and peaceful Chapala.
Recently Guadalajara celebrated its 450th anniversary. Throughout the centuries, the city has become rich in history, and to this day, many of the most historic and beautiful of Guadalajara’s buildings still stand as reminders of the significance Guadalajara has had and will continue to have on Mexico. As such we are confident that you will find Guadalajara a great place to learn Spanish and live the Mexican culture!
