| With
the number of tourists ever year Playa del carmen has grown to
cater to foreign tastes. From Thai to Italian to French and Lebanese
to Japanese, and of course the authentic Yucatecan specialties.
The pork cochinita pibil and chikcen pollo pibil
in a tangy red sauce made of achiote, garlic, sour orange served
wrapped in a banana leaf is an authentic Mayan dish. The poc chuc
which is a flattened grilled pork steak with a citrus sour orange
marinade is another Mayan specialty. The
Yucatecans were easily influenced by many aspects of countries
like France, Spain and Cuba which explains why there is a lot
of European flare in its cuisine.
