| Lima
and Miraflores offer a lot in the way of tasty food. You can find
a wide variety of international cuisine as well as some great
types of Peruvian cuisine.
The type of food in Lima is refered to as criollo.
Many of the dishes include a variety of fresh fish or shellfish.
Ceviche may just be the most representative of any of the Peruvian
foods. Ceviche is actually raw fish with is marinated in lemon
juice (the acid in the juice "cooks" the fish) and then
seasoned with chili. Then onions, cilantro and other spices are
added as well.
Some other popular dishes are tiradito (fish
marinated in lemon juice), coctel de camarones (ie a shrimp cocktail),
or jalea, which essentially a mix if deep fried seafood.
Some other popular dishes are the following:
- lomo saltado (stir fried veggies and pork)
- arroz con pollo (chicken and rice dish)
- carapulcra (potato and meat stew)
- anticuchos (bbq meats on a skewer)
- suspiros a la limena (type of sweet pudding)
- arroz con leche (rice pudding)
- picarones (type of potato doughnuts)
There are of course many more dishes. During
your stay in Lima take time to try these and the many other dishes
you come across. You will not be disappointed.
