San Juan Location: Northern Coast Of Puerto Rico
San Juan was founded in 1521 by the explorer Ponce de Leon. It is the capital of Puerto Rico and is the oldest city found in the US or its territories. Today roughly half of Puerto Rico’s inhabitants live in this beautiful city. San Juan is probably best known for its picturesque colonial area known as Old San Juan. Here you will find stunning examples of Spanish colonial architecture, quaint restaurants and bars, galleries, plus much more.
When you get tired of exploring Old San Juan you can relax in the sun somewhere along the miles of great beaches found in the area. One of the more popular areas is along the Condado. This areas is well known for the quality of its beach, boutique hotels, great dining, trendy nightclubs, and its general energy.
Other interesting areas to explore include Santurce which is full of art galleries, a variety of nightclubs and a couple of nice beach areas. The Hato Rey area of San Juan is the financial district and full of modern office buildings. The area is also home to great shopping, interesting cultural events, and some of the better restaurants in San Juan. Our Spanish school is located in the Hato Rey area of San Juan.
Puerto Rica has plenty of things to see and do outside of San Juan ranging from visiting rain forests, stopping by small villages, or just finding some remote beach to relax on.
